D’Hanis is a small (pop. 450) farming town with a rich history, located 2 miles west of the Lone Star Corral Co-Op. TexasEscapes.com has a brief history of the town and a great photo of the Old D’Hanis St. Dominic Catholic Church ruins. The church and adjacent cemetery date back the mid 1800s.
The Co-op has “adopted” the local elementary school and makes their Christmas much brighter with loads of hand made gifts, homemade cookies and many other gifts for the kids. The thanks you notes we receive back from them can be very touching!
There are a few eating establishments in D’Hanis:
A popular eatery, Bill & Rosa’s Steakhouse (830-363-7230), draws many of our LSC members and guests for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Along with chicken-fried everything, they also have grilled entries, sandwiches, and great home-made soup. They also have carry-out.
The Country Mart (830-363-7286), across the street from Bill & Rosa’s, has a small lunch cafe in the back corner.
Cowboy’s Restaurant (830-363-2282) is across the railroad tracks and I-90 to the south of Bill & Rosa’s and the Country Mart.
